midnight musical

the glass floor reflects the lyrics of love
we don't understand, and yet we do.
The language is a waltz, a slow, insistent waltz.
The room holds the sound
like the sky holds the light after a fireworks display.

The boom fades before the glow,
the mist mingles with the evening's musk.
A delicate hand washes the sound with a wave.
Hearts pound to the mythical music of romance and silk,
draped loosely over the secrets beneath the voice.

His hand on my back where the dress cuts away,
his knee between mine with the promise
of a pink champagne night
or a black coffee morning.

Chocolate mints on a silver tray
sweeten the lines of the midnight musical.
Act one. The only act.
No final curtain, no applause,
simply an expectation of more
or and expectation of nothing less.
