My View From The Wordlink Lounge

HOLA FROM RANCHO LA PUERTA
....the most magical sanctuary under the Mexican sun. A peaceful path to the inner self at the base of Mt Kuchuma. Every walkway curves gently between greenery and flowers and the heated scents of rosemary and sage emote aroma therapy into the air. Tiny geckos scatter out of the way as giant butterflies wave at the birds that land in the majestic oak trees.
The fresh, organic, primarily vegetarian food is delicious and so beautifully presented I took several pictures before disturbing the display. The classes are too many to list but every form of exercise known to "personkind" is available along with a complete menu of spa treatments.
It has been a week of learning and sharing. My wordlinnk workshops have engaged guests in a different kind of exercise...a focus on the inside out without strenuous effort and without criticism. The stories were as individual as each of the writers and again...I am amazed at what can be done in just ten minutes.
Being here with both my daughters has made it a truly memorable time and I am so blessed that we can have so much fun together.
I will be sad tomorrow when it comes time to leave but happy knowing I will be returning in September 2011.

AFTERWORD REVIEW
Saturday August 7, 2010 in the wordlinklounge
A small circle of writers gathered in the wordlinklounge to explore the theme of "Throw yourself a creative lifeline".   With your own lifeline you have something authentic to hold on to. By reconnecting to your true self you'll gain strength to face the world head on, move in your chosen direction, and stay the course. We can't wait around for anyone else to "save" us.
We wrote about we are not (often the opposite of what we are expected to be) and where we are from (turquoise Bermuda, shorts, ponytails, a father who snored, a mother who sang kitchen concerts sharing the radio stage with Frank Sinatra, a rented flat on Abbey Road...).
We listened to an excerpt from Gathering Medicine by Angelis Arrien and pondered the Four Rivers of Life: Inspiration, Surprise, Challenge and Love.
We shared words, ideas and made connections through writing. I am grateful for the trust of the writers who allow me to hold their stories.

Looking forward to Rancho La Puerta
Final arrangements are now  in place for my trip to Rancho la Puerta       http://www.rancholapuerta.com/On August 21, I fly out to San Diego California and board the Sundance coach for the short drive across the border to Tecate, Mexico. A quick tour along the main street of the town leads through the front gates to  a magical week at "The Ranch". Seven days of indulgence for the mind, body and soul. I am invited for the 10th time to be  a guest presenter of my Wordlink Workshop, "Writing From the Inside Out"...one of the "inner exercise classes" offered that week. This year, I am excited to have both my daughters coming with me to  share the experience.

A Truly Magnificent Gift!
On the 5th of July I celebrated my birthday with dear family members who have become friends and wonderful friends who have become family. I received a truly magnificent gift...it came in the form of a CD which now holds the generous, golden voice of one friend and the masterful musical accompaniment of another, performing the words from one of my very own poems.Midnight Musical came alive in a way I never imagined it could.

June 25, 2010 Gertie's Night Out
Just got in from seeing Gertie's Night Out, at the Sechelt Arts Centre starring  Caitlin Hicks who both wrote and performed a staggering one woman show. She shared humour and sober, intimate moments from her struggle growing up in a family of fourteen brothers and sisters.
Caitlin transformed herself into characters with accents and intonations, without costumes, props, music or special lighting. Gertie, a physically and mentally challenged young woman stole the show when she realized, through giving birth to her own, perfect daughter, she herself was "normal".
So pleased I was able to be there.
